Artist: Sam Glanzman
When I was growing up, my favorite comics were Sgt. Rock and G. I. Combat. I loved reading about the combat happy joes of Easy Co.. I loved the adventures of J.E.B. Stuart and the crewmen of The Haunted Tank. The stories were great, but the art was classic. Tiger and Sherman tanks, rugged terrain, and soldiers from all armies were stunningly rendered by the pen of Sam Glanzman in the pages of G. I. Combat. It was the best $1.00 comic ever published by DC. Sure, it was twice as much as other comics on the shelf, but it was worth it!

In June of 2002, Larry Shell posted a message to the comicart-l stating that Sam Glanzman was available for commissions. I was between a rock and a hard place financially, but I couldn't pass up an opportunity to ask one of the great DC war comic artists for a Winged Victory. I contacted Larry who passed my request on to Sam. The arrangements were made and before I had even mailed the check, Sam already had an idea for what he wanted to draw. A few weeks later, a large package arrived and the art you see was in my hands.

I am proud to have this piece in my collection because not only is Sam a great artist, he is also a veteran of World War II. To read more about Sam, please visit The U.S.S. Stevens
